Celebrating 50 years of women champions

Land O’Lakes, Inc. Title IX Championship Tour honors and celebrates the contributions that Minnesota women athletes/leaders have made to the advancement of girls' and women's sports. The bus tour is the first of several events formed to highlight the 50th anniversary of Title IX in advance of the 2022 NCAA Women’s Final Four on April 1 and 3 at Target Center in Minneapolis.

The Land O’Lakes, Inc. Title IX Championship Tour will feature a custom-decorated coach bus with 11 women who have been selected for their notable achievements in athletics and will travel to events in the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota.

Leeya Rose Jackson
Minneapolis, MN

Leeya Rose Jackson is a renowned black, femme and queer art director and designer living in Minneapolis, MN. She is a painter, printmaker with experience creating commercials and design for major brands such as U.S. Bank, Kayak, Silk, H&R Block, OpenTable, Betterment, Big Ten Basketball, Arby’s, and Lime-A-Rita.

Title IX Honorees
Minnesota has a rich history of women’s athletics – from trailblazers to Olympians, Minnesota has produced a staggering number of individuals who have made their mark on girls’ and women’s sports locally, nationally, and internationally.

11 women athletes have been selected for their notable achievements in their sport to demonstrate five decades of Title IX in Minnesota. Featured prominently on the Land O’Lakes Title IX Championship Tour bus, each athlete shows how Title IX has impacted the lives and careers of women.

Identified by a selection committee formed by the Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sport at the University of MN, these athletes span 7 sports and represent success, diversity, and inclusion.
Annie Adamczak-Glavan

Adamczak-Glavan is a former Moose Lake High School all-star in volleyball, basketball and softball who won five combined Minnesota State High School League State championships. She went on to play volleyball at the University of Nebraska.

Ann Bancroft

Bancroft is a polar explorer, educator, lecturer and all around athlete from Mendota Heights, MN. She is the first known woman to cross both the Arctic and the Antarctic as well as led the first American women’s crossing of Greenland from east to west.

Peg Brenden

Brenden is a former tennis player and retired coach who not only made headway as a player but pushed forward equity for women’s ability to play high school sports.

Natalie Darwitz

Darwitz is a professional ice hockey player and former captain of the US Women’s team from St. Paul, MN. After being the youngest person to join the national team at age 15, Darwitz found lots of success throughout her career winning back to back national titles with the Gophers and winning 2 silver and a bronze medal at the Olympics.

Jessie Diggins

Diggins is a professional cross country ski racer hailing from Afton Minnesota. She was chosen to represent the United States in 2014 and 2018 at the Winter Olympics, winning gold in 2018 and being the flag bearer at the closing ceremony.

Tasha Feigh

Feigh competed in 8 Special Olympics sports. As an All-State gymnast at the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games, she won a Gold medal and 4 silver medals. When she participated in the adaptive sports program at Osseo High School, Feign was honored the Athena Award and Female Athlete of the Year award for her accomplishments in adaptive sports.

Lisa Lissimore

Lissimore is a former high school and collegiate basketball player from St. Paul, MN and currently serves as the Associate Director of the Minnesota State High School League. She played in the first ever state basketball tournament and went on to win in 1976. She currently works toward promoting accessibility to sport for all and drives equity initiatives to provide opportunity regardless of race or gender.

Fartun Osman

Originally from Somalia, Osman was both a national basketball player and a runner in her homeland. After moving to the United States in the ‘90s, Osman noticed the need for girls to partake in sports and activities with women who look like them, and consequently founded The Girls Rocks Organization, a club that promotes hard work on and off the field and builds leaders in the community.

Samantha Seliger Swenson

Seliger-Swenson is a professional indoor volleyball player from Minnetonka, MN. After having an outstanding high school and club career, medaling in 8 of 9 national tournaments, she was ranked 8th in recruiting. This got her a spot on the Gophers where she was Big Ten Player of the Year. She currently plays professionally in the Athletes Unlimited Volleyball League.

Deb Sunderman

Sunderman is a former professional wheelchair basketball player, paralympian and coach from LeSueur, MN. She played a variety of sports in high school and went on to receive a degree in physical education. She then joined the Minnesota Rolling Gophers/Timberwolves of the NWBA and became part of their training camp staff as well. She represented the United States in two paralympics as a player and one as head coach.

Lindsay Whalen

Whalen was a professional basketball player and is currently a head coach from Hutchinson, MN. After winning the state title with her high school team, she went on to play at the University of MN where she led the team to 3 straight tournament appearances. After getting drafted 4th by the Suns, she returned home to play for the Lynx and ended her career with 4 championship wins. She also represented the United States in 2 Olympics, winning gold each time.

The Title IX Honor Roll recognizes 50 athletes, coaches, administrators, media, and supporters identified for their contributions to women’s athletics in Minnesota by a selection committee formed by the Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sport at the University of Minnesota.
